Getting a Library Card

Who can get a card?

Evans Public Library provides tax-supported services to the residents of the library district.  The library district includes the Fayette County townships of Bear Grove, Kaskaskia, Seminary, Shafter, Sharon, Vandalia, Wilberton, and the section of Sefton Township in the Vandalia School District. Resident cards are issued for three years. Resident cards may be used in any public library in Illinois. Card holders are required to notify the library of any address or telephone changes.

How to Get Your Card

To obtain a card residents of the library district need to bring in proof of residency and a photo ID. Any resident 3 – 17 years of age must have his/her application co-signed by a parent or guardian.

Non-Resident Taxpayer Cards

A non-resident who owns taxable property within the library district may receive a one-year non-resident taxpayer library card upon presentation of the most recent tax bill upon that taxable property.  This card may be used in any public library in Illinois participating in the non-resident card program.  The most recent tax bill must be presented each year to renew this card

Non-Resident Fees

Non-resident cards are issued to persons who do not reside within Evans Public Library District, do not own property within the library district, and do not have a valid library card at an Illinois public library. One-year family non-resident cards may be purchased.  The price varies depending upon a person’s property tax bill or monthly rent.  For the current cost tables, please contact the library.  A copy of a person’s most recent residential tax bill or current rent receipt is needed.  Non-resident cards may be used in any public library in Illinois participating in the non-resident card program.
